Dominicali hinting at Vettel to Ferrari?

Stefano Dominicali is a very important man in F1. He is the team principal of Ferrari F1. I'm sure you already knew this in the same way you've already heard rumours of Vettel going to partner Alonso next season. We've been hearing rumours of the pair being at Ferrari or Red Bull. Stefano has added more fuel to the metaphorical fire with these comments...

"I think they are both intelligent guys and they could easily coexist together."
The pair certainly look friends here...
After being shown a photoshopped picture of Vettel in Ferrari colours he said... "In life one should never say never!"
Is this news true? Has he been misinterpreted? Is he just winding us up? Who knows, only the future will tell!

Perez Vs Kobayashi

I've decided to make my team-mate comparison a running series as it got good reception with my Grosjean Vs Raikkonen one (scroll down to see). This week I'm looking at Sauber's drivers...

Kamui Kobayashi Vs Sergio Perez!

As things stand after the Canadian GP in Montreal Kamui is on 21 points with Sergio pulling out a slight lead as he has 37 points. So that's how it is on paper but I'm going to be looking more in depth at their performances on race day and in Qualifying.

Both drivers have had their whole careers in F1 at Sauber (Kamui from 2010 and Sergio from 2011) so will know the team and eachother well as this is their 2nd season racing as teammates. The Japenese daredevil is slightly more experienced but you wouldn't know it. His risky overtaking maneuvers and multiple incidents have earned him the loving nickname 'Kobaycrashy' from some fans. However- MOST of the time these overtakes are successful and he is a joy to watch.
Perez is not quite a polar opposite to his teammate as he too is good at making passes. He is different to Kamui in that he gets his points and good results based on consistency and being sensible...two things his teammate needs to improve on. What impresses me about Sergio is that he has taken to these Pirelli tyres extremely well and can make them work on big stints as he did to finish 3rd in Canada.

Race by Race!

  • Australia- It was a very mediocre start to the season for Sauber as Kamui only Qualified in 13th and Sergio even further back in 17th! Things improved on race day though as Perez stretched out his tyres on a 1-stop strategy to finish 8th. Kamui opted for 2 stops and had a strong race to finish 6th. Great progress from their grid positions for both of them but Kamui outraced his Mexican counterpart the whole weekend.
  • KK 2-0 SP
  • Malaysia- An improved performance by Sergio Perez saw him qualify in 10th but Kamui had a poor performance and couldn't get further than 17th. On race day Perez once again used his tyres superbly and had some good fortune with the weather to claim his first ever podium as he finished 2nd! Kobayashi had an unremarkable race and then retired due to a brakes issue.
  • KK 2-2 SP
  • China- A great Saturday for the whole team as Kamui starts 4th and Sergio in 8th. On the Sunday things didn't go anywhere near as well. Both Sauber's were stuck in traffic for most of the race and finished 10th(KOB) & 11th(PER).
  • KK 4-2 SP
  • Bahrain- Perez made it into Q3 and placed himself in 8th with Kobayashi in 12th. It was a disappointing race for both of the Sauber men as they finished 11th & 13th. This was Sauber's first race without collecting any points in 2012.
  • KK 4-4 SP
  • Spain- In a very unpredictable Qualifying which saw Maldonado take pole, Perez and Kobayashi drove well to start 6th & 10th respectively. Perez retired on Lap 37 with a Transmission failure. Meanwhile his teammate was driving a great race and ended up finishing 5th
  • KK 5-5 SP
  • Monaco- Perez started last after not completing a lap on the Saturday and Kamui started a mediocre 12th. Kobayashi crashed out Lap 5 and Perez drove a controlled race to 11th.
  • KK 6-6 SP
  • Canada- Disappointing Saturday for both Sauber men as they Qualified 11th (KOB) & 15th (PER). Sunday was great for Perez as he managed his tyres well to finish 2nd. A decent race for Kobayashi (9th) means they are drawing as we go into Valencia.
  • KK 7-7 SP

Who knows where it will go from here for Sauber. Both drivers have shown they can pull of different strategies to score BIG points. Is a win too far off? Maybe not! With a bit of luck, a bit of rain and a dollop of inspiration- Sauber could pull it off!

I asked a few FakeF1 people on Twitter who they thought would score most points...

Who will be victorious?

I say- Kamui Kobayashi
Fake Sauber says- Serio Perez
Fake Ralf Schumacher says- Sergio Perez
Fake Cora Schumacher says- Sergio Perez
Fake Vivian Siblod says- Sergio Perez.

Obviously the Mexican won by landslide but I think it will be closer than my fellow Twitterers have predicted. Only time will tell.

Kimi Vs Grosjean!

Over the years there has been many great inter-team rivalries... Senna & Prost, to more recently Hamilton & Alonso. Both of which were explosive and resulted in some great years of F1.
Ham and Alo had a fiery rivalry in 2007

The most famous rivalry in F1

This season the team with the biggest battle (for me) is not a direct front runner, but instead it is Lotus! Lotus have completely blown me away this season with being right up there fighting for wins and podiums. Yet when you look close enough, its not hard to see why. They have 2 great drivers.
  • Kimi was and still is world class and he can pull out a lap when he needs to.
  • Grosjean has been at the team Renault/Lotus for a few years now (although some of it was as a reserve driver)  so he knows the team well.
RACE BY RACE-
  • Australia- Grosjean out qualified Kimi in the opening race of the season but retired early after a collision with Maldonardo. Kimi had a strong race considering he started in 18th, he came through to 'Finnish' 7th.
  • Kimi 1-1 Grosjean
  • Malaysia- On the Saturday at Kuala Lumpur Kimi vastly improved on his qualifying last race and got himself to 5th! An improvement was also seen by Grosjean as the youngster qualified 7th. On the race day Grosjean made a great start and got himself up to 3rd. Then the rain came down and Grosjean was on the wrong tyres at the wrong time and spun out on lap 4. 2 races & 2 DNF's for the Frenchman. Kimi finished 5th after an unremarkable race.
  • Kimi 3-1 Grosjean
  • China- Kimi got another 5th on the Saturday whilst Grosjean had to settle for 10th. On raceday, Grosjean had a strong race and showed his critics -who after the first 2 races were doubting him- that he deserved his seat as he finished 5th. Kimi's tyres just die on him at the end of the race and he falls to 10th.
  • Kimi 4-2 Grosjean
  • Bahrain- Not a strong Quali for either of the Lotus men as Grosjean ends up 7th with Kimi all the way back in 11th. However- both drivers show great race pace and finish with Kimi 2nd and Grosjean 3rd.
  • Kimi 5-3 Grosjean
  • Spain- A strong Saturday for Lotus as Kimi gets 5th and Grosjean starts 1 spot ahead of him in 4th. In the race they were both strong but Kimi just managed his tyres a bit better to get on the podium in 3rd while his teammate was just behind in 4th.
  • Kimi 6-4 Grosjean
  • Monaco- The Frenchman out-qualified his more experienced teammate as he was 5th with Kimi in 8th. In the race though, Grosjean's inexperience showed as he crashed out whilst Kimi got some points in 9th.
  • Kimi 7-5 Grosjean
  • Canada- Once again Grosjean was victorious of his Scandinavian rival in Quali. Kimi didn't get into the top 10 and started 12th whilst Grosjean got to 7th on the grid. Kimi had a good race and made up some places to get an 8th but Grosjean was the star of the show as he saved his tyres well and drove a mammoth stint on 1 set of tyres. This paid off and while everyone else was struggling for grip he powered through to get a 2nd!
  • Kimi 7-7 Grosjean

So its all square as we head to Valencia and what will happen there, nobody knows in this unpredictable season. This will be a fascinating battle to watch over the season to see if Grosjean can continue to match his experience teammate or if Kimi will use his age to run away from him.

They both look happy enough here, but who will be laughing at the end of the season?

Cost Control, yay or nay?

Hello there, whoever you are.
So, I've heard a lot about news about cost control in F1 over the last few days and thought I'd do a blog on it. I'm not just going to copy&paste the whole bloody thing like too many blogs seem to do. Instead I'll just give you a link to the story and go on to give me opinion. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/100385
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/100362/

So, I have no doubt that if there was no cost control the sport would be faster. This is a good thing for every one of us motorheads. Speed is good. However, speed would come only to those with huge budgets and would effectively knock any team not backed by a motorcar manufacture (or Red Bull). Although maybe F1 already is like that, afterall you do have to pay for the talent behind the wheel.
From a safety point of view- having no cost control is practically suicide. You'd simply go far far too quick.

On the other hand, cost control is a very good thing even if it means a bit less speed. We don't need ALL that speed, do we? Look at the season we're having so far! Incredible! Cost control will keep the do gooding, non F1 fans from moaning about it 'being a recession'. It also is the main thing we can do to balance out the field. We all know a close field means close races and as we saw in Montreal last week, that is a very good thing.

Thank you for reading.

My predictions for who's moving to what team. (F1)

2nd Blog post...
Well, I should really be revising for my Chemistry GCSE I have today- Eeeek! But instead, I'm gonna bring you my predictions for next season's team line-ups.
Ferrari- Alonso, Button. Now- I know Alonso is almost sure but Button sounds a stretch of the imagination but here's my reasoning- He's getting out raced the whole season at Mclaren, surely would want a move. Unlike Hamilton he wasn't brought into the sport by Mclaren and hasn't been there for as long, so could move.
Red Bull- Vettel, Webber. I don't think there will be any changes this year, as they are racing (near enough) equally and Webber doesn't seem to be a number 2 driver this year.
Mclaren- Hamilton, Di Resta. Now, I can't see Hamilton leaving unless the car turns awful or there is a fall out in the team. Both of which are possible at Mclaren though! All problems aside- he's staying in my view. Now Di Resta has been linked to all manner of teams but if he continues as he's started off this season I can see him making a big jump to Mclaren. This would work because he is a UK driver and Mclaren is obviously a UK team.
Mercedes-  Rosberg, Schumacher . I can see Nico being there, and really not being there too. However I think the team is fully behind him at Mercedes so he'll stay. I really can't see Micheal leaving F1 with the season he's having especially when it's mainly bad luck, so he'll stay for another one.
Force India- Hulk, Kovaleinen. Hulkenburg is having a strong season and unless he gets replaced by a 3rd driver from somewhere, I can't see him going. Now Kov is probably the biggest wildcard here but if you think about it, it's not too stupid. At Mclaren he wasn't completely slow like Massa is at Ferrari these days. He was OKAY there. Not only that but at the back of the grid he has been the stand out driver for me and I think most people will agree he's worthy of another car.

Bye and wish me luck for my exam ;)

Welcome to my blog.
